First we had ice cream cake (mommy's choice:) and presents in Pebble Beach with my family. Ethan was super excited to have us all singing to him. This set the precedence for what a birthday is to him--cake and presents!

Blowing out the candles with Papa and Nana.

Taking a bite out of the cake with a little encouragement from Auntie Kara and Daddy.

Enjoying his presents!

Drinking out of his new big boy "Ethan" cup with daddy.
Our second celebration was with some of Ethan's friends and mommy's friends. I send out car invitations so I made these cupcakes with "tires" on them. I think they turned out pretty cute.

I had a couple pools set up for the kids to play with . Ethan was pretty focused on his "birthday" which meant cupcakes and presents...forget all that lunch and playing with friends business.

FINALLY enjoying the cupcake!

Eating with his friend Eli.

Ethan was spoiled with lots of trucks and cars! What more could a little boy want?

On Ethan's actually birthday we had pancakes for breakfast and sang to him one more time. He got pretty good at blowing out candles!
Oma Schenk came for a visit over Ethan's birthday. She bought him some Thomas the Tank tracks and trains. Ethan was SUPER excited to open the bag he found in her room.

Ethan's the conductor--All Aboard!

Figuring out the tracks with Oma. We decided daddy is the best track maker though!

When Ethan was born my friend Mary gave me 52 cards with the number of week written on each, this giraffe and a small photo album. Every week I took a picture of Ethan growing and the giraffe shrinking. The last couple weeks were really tricky as he became more mobile and loved to eat the cards. I decided to continue taking a picture with the giraffe every year to add to the album. It was easier this time to tell him to hold the paper for mommy to see. He was still a little wiggly though.
Happy Birthday Ethan! We love you!

Happy Birthday, Ethan! What a big boy you are! Have fun with all those trains, truck, and cars. You'll love being 2!
Love, Anna (and Matt and Gail)
Great birthday pics! It is funny that the older you get the less extravagent the parties and amount of presents become. Ethan has brought you a lot of joy in the past 2 years. Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday Ethan. I am sure that he has heard it enough and is over the whole thing, but there I said it. It looks like he had a lot of fun loading up on sugar and hanging out with friends (also my idea of a good time).
